Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Outpatient Rheumatology | Boone, NC | UNC Health Appalachian

UNC Health Appalachian is recruiting a board-certified or board-eligible Rheumatologist to join an established, all-outpatient practice in Boone, NC. The High Country region of western North Carolina is significantly underserved in Rheumatology, as evidenced by a six-month waitlist for new patients. This is a replacement role: one of two current physicians is retiring in September 2026, and you will assume that provider's established patient panel and community reputation in a clinic that has been part of the region since 2008.

The practice is located two blocks from UNC Health Appalachian's main hospital campus, giving you the proximity of a hospital-affiliated practice without any inpatient responsibilities. You will be employed directly by UNC Health, the state's most respected academic health system, with the institutional support that brings and the day-to-day feel of a focused specialty clinic.

The client is open to a site visit and moves quickly: an LOI is typically extended within 48 hours of a visit, with contracts finalized within one to two weeks. Eddie Maple, VP of Provider Development, leads the search.
