Clinical Component

The Practice, Schedule, and Responsibilities

  • At Morristown Hamblen there are 12 ICU beds, 12 stepdown beds, and 74 Medical/ Surgical beds. GI patients can be seen in any of these areas. There are also 2 dedicated GI labs in the hospital and Dr. Adams also uses 2 rooms at the ASC for GI.
  • The schedule is flexible, but generally will be Monday – Friday, essentially 36 hours of patient contact per week. Right now, Dr. Adams has 2 dedicated clinic days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and spends the remaining days doing consults, rounding, and doing procedures.
  • Dr. Adams is currently seeing up to 30 patients during his clinic days. When he rounds in the hospital, he usually sees close to 15 patients and will average 10 procedures during his procedure days. With the current six (6) months wait time, you’ll be walking into a turnkey situation.
Please note, that this schedule will change once the incoming GI’s is on board. The team at Morristown-Hamblen is incredibly flexible.

Call

  • The incoming GI will be expected to take 10 days of call per month. Dr. Adams chooses to take more call, but you are not required to take more than 10 days.
  • According to Dr. Adams, the call is not daunting. He may have Zero calls one night and 5 the next. He rarely comes in. The hospitalist team and Dr. Adams have a great relationship. They do not bother calling him unless they really need him. Typically, Dr. Adams gets an update from the night before and will follow up with the patient that day.
