As a founding faculty member at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, CA, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a dynamic new Psychiatry residency program in partnership with Touro University. Your position will place you at the center of a growing academic mission, where your contributions will directly impact curriculum development, resident training, and the future of behavioral healthcare in the Central Valley. While this is a new role, the foundation is already in place: 7 residents are admitted per year with a target of 21 total residents, supported by a well-established consortium that includes Napa State Hospital and the Sacramento VA. Your practice will be fully based in Stockton, with no obligation to rotate to external sites.
Your daily experience will be a rewarding blend of clinical independence and academic influence. You will work alongside passionate faculty and engaged residents, with protected time to focus on both teaching and patient care. The position is designed for physicians who are self-directed, innovative, and eager to help build a lasting educational infrastructure in a region with a pressing need for behavioral health services.
The Central Valley faces significant shortages in psychiatric care, especially for underserved populations. By helping establish and grow this residency program, you will directly expand access to mental health services while training the next generation of psychiatrists. The vision is long-term: improve care today and build local retention of future graduates.
